Overcast
03:51
|
|||
I'm overcast again
Clouds are rolling overhead
Thunder fills the air
Lightning sparks the atmosphere
Rain starts to show
Soon the drains will overflow
The winds cyclone blows
The street's a sheet of hailstones
And I'll stay inside
By the fire's light
Until you arrive
'Cos you're the only one who sees the constellation in the mess
You're the only one who seems to calm me when I'm stressed
And I could pick you out in a crowd from all the rest
And I would tell them all to leave until there's only you left
You're a breath of fresh air
A calm breeze from the water's edge
You make the sky clear
You've got the light to reappear
And outside my door
The rain's stopped its pour
Not by its own accord
'Cos you're the only one who sees the constellation in the mess
You're the only one who seems to calm me when I'm stressed
And I could pick you out in a crowd from all the rest
And I would tell them all to leave until there's only you left
'Cos you're the only one who sees the constellation in the mess
You're the only one who seems to calm me when I'm stressed
And I could pick you out in a crowd from all the rest
And I would tell them all to leave until there's only you left

Lanterns
05:50
|
|||
Sparkling skies and starry eyes
Drifting into view
I'll only be here for a while
But you don't seem to mind
We'll find our place among the crowd
And wait until the cue
The drums beat softly, rhythms sound
The lights begin to move
And oh, your eyes, they shine
As we all watched the night
It all spins into motion
We staggered at the sight
Of a paper lantern ocean
The children swing their lights
In organised commotion
Their beacons shining bright
Out into the open
Some stand staring from the tiles
Some on phone booths
And as they feel a gradual smile
Their eyes are filled with youth
A hushed whisper crosses the crowd
Exchanging wondrous views
Their eyes fixated, spellbound
To midwinter's annual bloom
And all their eyes, they shine
As we all watched the night
It all spins into motion
We staggered at the sight
Of a paper lantern ocean
The lamps all dip and dive
Forcing concentration
On the bleary eyes
Of a towns whole population
Now that the lights have gone out
And a breeze has blown in
We'll walk with the crowd
To shelter from the wind
We'll head on home
And reminisce
In our heads we'll know
That it's the lights we miss
As we all watched the night
It all spins into motion
We staggered at the sight
Of a paper lantern ocean
But now we've said goodbye
To the sparkling constellation
That we've had to leave behind
'Till the next time it's created

Me In My Sweater
01:41
|
|||
I'm writing this song on a uke as broken as me
It's tightly strung and scratched
There's notes it can't reach
It's bloodied, battered and bruised
with years of trust and use
But still fits its purpose
despite on the surface looking
like it's been hit by a typhoon
I'm writing this song on some keys as perfect as you
They're completely in shape
There's not a loose screw
It's modern, stylish and sleek
It's everything I want to be
It's packed full of features
It couldn't be neater
Despite how much it disagrees
Now I know I'm not up to your standards
But I know we can work in tandem
Even though you're way better
Than me in my sweater
Writing about what I think

Paper Accordions
04:13
|
|||
I was looking for leads
To solve my own mystery
Would it be long 'till I belonged?
An opportunity presented itself
And honestly, it looked like an elf
But it was just your pointy-eared self
The pleasantries, they went pretty well
Usually, it all goes to hell
I was sold that we both had fell
Well too bad
'Cos you've lost him now
Your two cents
It was all you cared about
Well too bad
'Cos you've lost him now
Your two cents
It was all you cared about
And now my work's all undone
And to be honest it stung
But I can make you see your mistake
The phenomenon of messing around
Is so much fun when you're up in the clouds
Unaware of what's on the ground
[and so]
The one I had won to try and best you somehow
Found out she'd been strung along by "some clown"
And so she left with a frown
Well too bad
'Cos you've lost her now
Your two cents
It was all you cared about
Well too bad
'Cos you've lost her now
Your two cents
It was all you cared about
It's too bad
'Cos I've lost them now
And they were
All I cared about
